Shakira ordered to trial in Spain on tax fraud charges
Pop singer Shakira could face a eight-year prison sentence as well as a huge fine if she is convicted.
A Spanish judge approved on Tuesday the trial of Colombian pop artist Shakira on tax fraud.
Spanish Prosecutors accused the singer Shakira at the end of 2018 for not paying 14.5 millions dollars ($13.9 millions) in taxes on earnings that she earned between 2012 and 2014.
Shakira 45 has repeatedly denied all wrongdoings and has rejected a plea with authorities to not go to the trial.
Shakira's public relations company claims that she's already paid everything she was owed, and also $3 million ($2.8 millions) as interest.
The court in Esplugues de Llobregat near Barcelona declared that Shakira is expected to be found guilty of six charges in tax fraud.
The question is about the place where Shakira resided during the period 2012-14.
Shakira who's real name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Rifoll, has been connected to Spain since she began with soccer star Gerard Pique.
Spain has taken action against soccer stars such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the last decade for not paying the full amount in taxes.
